Mt Urchin Track
The bikes are loaded and the diesel is topped off in the camper. Ready for a trip to ride one of the most technical and forested mountain bike trails in the North Island. This trail is technically considered an Advanced Tramping Track... The track has a steady climb through beech forest with overgrown roots. Once you reach bush line and make it to the 1391 M summit, you are awarded an amazing view over the vista towards Lake Taupo and the volcanoes of the Tongariro National Park.
Myself and Gibson would make the hike-a-bike to the top and then make the most of the decent while shooting a few photos of the more technical areas.
Top of Mt Urchin was littered with shale rock and as loose as it gets until you make it safely into the bush. Got a couple rad shots of the top section and was loads of fun free riding down. Once into the bush we wanted to capture the scene best we could but tends to be a hard task for anyone with a camera. Luckily this was up to Gibson and left it to the professional. We managed to get a handful of sweet shots and then decided to put it away and just freely enjoy the atmosphere and area we were surrounded with.
May have to be my favorite New Zealand day hike mission and always longing for the next greatest. Pushing to make more of these excursions happen on a regular basis. Thanks to my sponsors and their constant support, it makes this all possible and hopefully become a slightly better writer along the way with these post. If you have read this far make a comment with any feedback.
Cheers
